A metering packing machine is the final check before a product gets packaged. Its job is to measure and divide material into each bag with exact weight precision. When there is a fluctuation in packaging accuracy, it means that either customers are overcharged with materials and lose profits or they face fines and reputational damage for underloading. However, many operators only know how to repeatedly calibrate electronic scales after discovering weighing deviations, ignoring the "hidden killers" that truly cause accuracy fluctuations.
Killer 1: Vibration Interference
Vibrations from nearby equipment can travel directly into the load cell, making the scale pick up false weight signals. If your machine is less accurate during busy daytime shifts than at night, background vibration is likely the cause. To fix this, install the metering packing machine on an independent shock-absorbing base or use anti-vibration pads to isolate it from the floor.
Killer 2: Air Currents
If compressed air blowers, ventilation ducts or open doors are near the weighing area, moving air will push on the precision scale pan. This makes the weight reading bounce around. Check for air blowing directly at the scale pan, then redirect the airflow or install a draft shield.
Killer 3: Static Electricity
When handling ultra-fine powders, static charges build up during transport and cause material to stick to the scale pan or hopper walls. This leaves leftover powder after each batch, which adds up and ruins the next weight measurement. To solve this, make sure the machine is properly grounded and install a static eliminator at the feed inlet if needed.
Killer 4: Load Cell Damage from Overload
Load cells have a maximum weight limit. If a heavy object drops onto the scale during cleaning or maintenance or if a material blockage overloads the pan for too long, the internal spring element can warp permanently. This shifts the output signal. External calibration cannot fix this damage; the load cell must be replaced.
Killer 5: Temperature Changes
Load cells are sensitive to temperature shifts. If the machine is placed near a heat source or an AC vent, temperature changes will alter the scale's zero point and sensitivity. Place the metering packing machine in an area with stable temperature and avoid direct sunlight.
